 Brooks Saddles and Bags

We are proud to announce that we have recently received  the exquisite Brooks Swallow Limited Edition - a Collector's Item at a very competitive price.

And now also the Collector's Edition Brooks Sprinter, and at the other end of the cycling spectrum, the Classic heavily sprung B135.

Legend has it that in 1865, John Boultbee Brooks at the age of 19 bought himself one of those new fangled velocipedes. He would have cut quite a dashing figure back in those days, but that was not all he cut; the wooden saddle was excruciatingly uncomfortable.

His father made leather saddles for horses - and indeed he and his contemporaries normally came to work on a horse. So the young Brooks set about designing and developing a comfortable saddle from leather in his father's works. In 1866 J.B. Brooks & Co.Ltd. established its works in Great Charles Street Birmingham. The rest, as they say, is history.

In the 30's Brooks were the saddle of choice for racing cyclists, dominating the Tour de France. As synthetic materials became more widely available lighter weight saddles were produced which squeezed Brooks out of the racing market. However those cyclists, like tourers and commuters, who wanted comfort and durability, tolerated the weight penalty and the need for some saddle maintenance.

Recently, Brooks has been rejuvenated by the SelleRoyal Company of Italy, and the old favourites, plus a series of new models, are now available at competitive prices.

Abbotsford Cycles stock and supply almost the entire Brook catalogue and have a large range of spare parts including clamps, springs, brackets, backplates, nose parts and rivets. Give us a call to discuss your Brooks requirements.
