If you’re lucky enough to have a rack on your bike, then the next logical step is rack bags! Whether you need a basket bag for your front rack or a trunk bag for the top of your rear rack, we got you.
Now we aren’t talking about panniers here – even though those are easily the most popular bags for a rack. You can find all the panniers we stock over on this page or in our Richmond shop.
But if you were looking to carry gear on top of your rear luggage rack, these are called Trunk Bags. And Ortlieb are the makers of some of the best waterproof trunk bags in the world. Their bags will fit to the top of just about any rear rack out there. Because they have adjustable feet on their bags. And they make a super functional design that is reliably waterproof. Which is important for a bag that’s sitting proud on your rack exposed to the elements.
The other type of bicycle rack bag is the trusty basket bag. For those of you running a big wide front basket on your bike we have the Swift Industries Sugar Loaf bag. Which fits neatly inside a square or rectangular shaped front basket. But if you have just a platform front rack rather than a basket, this bag can still work. It has nice attachment points so you will be able to secure it to your front platform rack. And it’s awesome as a stand alone bag – it doesn’t look like a bike bag! We love that!
Transporting your gear to and from work shouldn’t be hard. And with these kinds of bike accessories you don’t have to think too hard in the morning. And it’s a great idea to take weight off your back (ditch the backpack). Backpacks are exceptionally unfun in the summer months when you sweat up a storm. And the worst part is when they cut down on your visibility and make shoulder checking hard.
If you weren’t particularly sold on going the pannier route, these bags are a nice alternative or transition. If you have ever been concerned at weight distribution then running bags on top of your rack rather than the sides is great.
