Which Ortlieb panniers are for touring?
While you can use whatever pannier works for you on your tour, there are specific models made for this kind of cycling. Ortlieb’s biggest panniers tend to be the most popular choice – the Back Roller Pro range. These come in both Classic & Plus fabrics. We would recommend the Plus fabric just because it is a lighter fabric, and why not lighten your load where you can. Both fabrics are equally hard-wearing and of course waterproof.
There are also different styles of pannier popular for touring – these are the lid-closure bags rather than the roll-top. The Bike-Packer range of panniers are lid fastening & have a drawstring closure underneath. This can be preferable if you want to tuck a few things under the lid. it can also help if you are likely to have your bags slightly overfilled!
