Servicing your Shutter Precision Hub
If your hub has reached the time in it’s life where it needs a service, we can help coordinate this with you.
Shutter Precision service their hubs in Taiwan, so the hub needs to be returned to their facility in Taiwan. SP only accept the hub being sent to them, so you will need to ‘unbuild’ your wheel & ship just the hub.
From there SP quote the price to service the hub & ship it back to you in Australia. This cost is dependent on SP’s own pricing model & the exchange rates at the time. We would estimate allowing $150 for this part of the process, which includes your costs to ship to Taiwan.
Once the hub is returned to you fully serviced & ready for thousands more kilometres of use, we move to the next step. The hub needs to be built back into your wheel.
Rebuilding your wheel with your fully serviced hub
We are expert wheel builders at Abbotsford Cycles, and we can rebuild your wheel with the serviced hub. We do not re-use spokes from your wheel (and we advise you do not either). So to have an estimate of the cost, you will need to include the price of the spokes. Adding the price of spokes to the labour cost of building a wheel, you can estimate about $260.
This makes a rough idea of cost for servicing your Shutter Precision hub to be approximately $360. This can seem like a fair amount of money for a service! But if you are like us and believe in the motto ‘reduce, reuse, recycle’ then it is worth it.
We love that Shutter Precision do service their hubs, and don’t believe in simply selling you a new one. So if you would like to go ahead and have your hub serviced we would be happy to help you with this! We can coordinate with SP in Taiwan on your behalf & rebuild your wheel upon your hubs return.
