Looking for bike tools for home or for taking on your next long ride? Here you will find some of the most useful tools to keep on hand.
Whether you are building bikes at home, or you just know how to work on yours, there are some essential tools you need.
And we always recommend buying a high quality tool where you can. This is not just because nice things are nice to own. But it will save your components and accessories to be using high quality equipment. Because a quality tool is reliable and won’t round out your bolt heads for example. And you will be able to correctly torque your bolts on your bike when you can trust the equipment you are using!
We stock hand tools from the very well-known brand Park Tool. This brand is in every bike shop in Australia for a reason. Their gear is extremely high quality & holds up to thousands of hours of use in a professional workshop. So if you were concerned with the longevity of the products you are buying, you need not be.
Park Tool are experts in creating equipment that is easy to hold in your hand, and give you better leverage as a result. A quality hand tool is one that is easy & natural to use. So you will find the ergonomic design is not just for hand comfort, you will be able to use the product better too.
But Park Tool aren’t the only brand in this game, there’s also IceToolz. We have been stocking equipment from this brand for many years because they are reliable & thoughtfully designed. Their chain-breaker is simple & lightweight enough to shove into your spares bag on a long ride. And they also make a mountain of multi-tools to cover everything you will need.
For rounding out your equipment at home, we recommend a pedal wrench of course, and a good Tri-Tool for their ease of use. But you will be more likely to order a tool as needed. So don’t worry too much about investing in tools for future use. Our best advice is to consider the other bolt head types on your bike when buying a multi-tool or Tri-Tool. This is just to ensure you get the most use out of your purpose. And it will make it more useful to carry on a bikepacking trip!
It’s all about packing the right gear on a bikepacking trip. So consider what the most common causes are for you to go rifling in your spares bag. Maybe it’s Co2 or tyre levers for a puncture repair. Or maybe it’s your Hex key for tightening a stem bolt that always seems to be coming loose on you. We would always recommend someone on a ride has a chain breaker. And a valve core remover with some sealant as well! You never know what you will encounter out there and it’s best to carry some equipment that you will never need. Better than not having it that’s for sure!
